S1000DTM in HTML
Why HTML?
Information must usually be made available quickly and must therefore
- be exchangeable fast and without complications
- be visible quickly (without the need for time-consuming installations)
- not create additional costs for software licences or new hardware
So why re-invent the wheel? For many years now, HTML offers the necessary functionality and the corresponding browsers are sophisticated, available for free and already present on almost every computer. HTML can be generated easily from S1000DTM data. Even older computers can handle this task without problems.
Why HTML and not directly S1000DTM?
The representation of S1000DTM data requires a corresponding retrieval system. Therefore, before the data can be displayed,
- additional software must be installed
- data must be imported
- the relevant user rights must be set
Furthermore, this requires additional software licences and more powerful hardware, which results in additional costs for the server or workstation, on which the documentation is to be displayed.
