Product families and variants provide for savings of costs in the production. To reuse information successfully, it must be granulated to small information units. The difficulty is the wise filing of these data and the possibility to find them quickly in the system. Additionally, automatic procedures must ensure that changes in reusable information units entail changes in all associated documents.

GRIPS provides clear data filing for the entire documentation, which includes information units being only linked to each other and never being copied. Thus, the user maintains the overview of the documentation variants. In the case of discrepancies, the technical writer has the possibility to delete the links and to make specific changes.

This technique has a positive effect on the translation process as already translated units are not chosen for a new translation, but are recognized as translated. The different languages of the documentation are placed on the language axis of the GRIPS navigation.
